Khenpo Gonpo Tashi became monk when he was 10 years old in Karma Temple Mainpat India, the Beru Khyentse Rinpoche's Monastery. Then 4 years later, in 2003, he joined the Diwakar Buddhist Academy in Kalimpong.
In Diwakar Buddhist Academy, Khenpo Gonpo Tashi studied : 1) Madhayamakavatra by Acharya Chandra Kirti 2) Abhidharma-Kosa by Acharya Vasubandu 3) Pramanavartika by Acharya Dharma Kirti 4) Prajanaparamita (Abhisamaya-Alankara) by Acharya Haribhadra 5) The Gateway of Knowledge by Mipham Jamyang Namgyal Gyatso 6) Tibetan Grammar & Literature etc, for 8 years and he graduated in 2011
After his graduation he started teaching the Commentary on Valid Cognition (Pramanavartika) at the Diwakar Buddhist Academy (Shedra) in Kalimpong. At that same year, and in presence of the late 14th Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche, he was appointed as one of the administrator at the Diwakar Buddhist Academy. As administrator his responsibility was to guide on discipline, that is called Tsultrimpa or Discipline Master. He was in the service of this role during three years.
After completing that, beginning of 2015, he was chosen by their Principal to continue serving as a member of their Institute Welfare where he assisted for 1 year.
The last two years Khenpo Gonpo Tashi works at Karmapa International Buddhist Institute as attendant to His Holiness Karmapa Thaye Dorje.
